Guide to Nail Art Techniques
With these techniques you can create stunning, beautiful nail designs.
Before you start make sure your nails are clean and dry. Always use a base coat as this will help the polish to last longer, help against chipping and stop polish staining the nail. Allow the polish to dry in between coats. If using nail polish have some nail polish remover to hand so you can clean your brush between colours or water if using acrylic paints.
Basic Techniques
Dots - There are lots of items you can use for dots. Detailing pens, brush, brush end, toothpicks and other similar objects. Just place on nail with light pressure and lift straight up.
Strokes/Flicks - Use a long very thin brush. Touch the nail with the brush and pull across the nail with a flicking action. Apply some more pressure for thicker strokes.
Tear drops - Apply slight pressure with the brush touching the nail so that the hairs spread out. Then pull the brush down releasing pressure as you go.
C Stroke/Comma - The same as writing the letter c. Start at the beginning of the c and apply pressure as you reach the middle then releasing as you finish the letter c.
S Stroke - Start and sweep the brush down moving slightly to the left, then applying more pressure move to the right and then releasing the pressure, back to the left.
Swirls - Hold the brush in a upright position over the nail, swirling around in a circular motion. Move lightly for thin swirls and heavily for thick swirls.
Applying Glitter and Rhinestones
First apply a clear polish to the area you wish to cover with glitter. While the polish is still wet sprinkle glitter onto the nail. Then apply top coat to seal in and protect your design. Have a piece of paper underneath your nail during this to collect the excess glitter. You can then return it to the jar.
The same technique applies to rhinestones. Dab some clear polish where you wish to place the rhinestone. Apply while the polish is wet with gentle pressure. Then apply plenty of top coat to seal in the protect.
Have a go and just experiment and see what you come up with. Have fun.

GLITTER NAIL ART DESIGN step-by-step
You will now need three different colour glitter pens.
Apply your first glitter colour.
Apply the next colour further down and leave a space for the silver in the middle.
Apply the silver in the middle and a tiny bit on the very tip.
Apply your favourite top coat and your done.

How to have Healthy Nails
I will get straight to the point, the way to have healthy, strong nails is all to do with nutrition. What you eat has a major effect on the way your nails grow. Many people don't realise this and think it is how you care for your nails that makes them strong and healthy.
Make sure you have plenty of vitamins. Vitamin A, C, and vitamin B12 all have an effect on your finger and toe nails.
Vitamin A keeps your nails strong. Dry and bitter nails could be due to a lack of vitamin A as well as calcium. Your nails will be more prone to breaking as well.
Vitamin C can help prevent hang nails. Protein and frolic acid work with vitamin C keeping your nails healthy. You may have noticed random white bands across your fingernails at some point. These are often caused by protein deficiency and making sure your intake of protein is standard can help keep your nails looking clear and healthy.
Zinc also prevents white spots on your nails. Vitamin B12 helps keep your nails from drying out, much like vitamin A. Without vitamin B12 nails often also become darker and the ends often curve. Sufficient amounts of vitamin B12 can keep your nails growing healthy and remaining naturally coloured and clear.
Make sure you have hydrochloride acid in your diet as this prevents nails from splitting and breaking. Making sure you eat a healthy diet will give you healthy nails. It is recommended that people should consume a diet of fifty percent fruits and vegetables. It is also recommended by dieticians to drink at least eight glasses of water a day. It is extremely important that people remain hydrated and keep their intake of liquids high. In fact, carrot juice is thought to be the best liquid for keeping your nails healthy and strong. The high levels of calcium and phosphorus in carrot juice keeps nails especially strong.
So eating the right diet can have a huge impact on your nails. However, a proper diet can have positive aspects on almost every area of your life. In addition to keeping your nails strong healthy, a proper diet can make your entire body feel healthy, rejuvenated and strong.

With gel, sprinkle the glitter between coats, cure and brush off the excess before applying the next gel coat. Glitter can also be applied to the top of the nail on to tacky nail polish and then finished with a good quality top coat. The trick to a top finish is once the nail polish has dried is to brush off the excess glitter before applying the top coat, if you don't do this you will get glitter in your top coat. Another way to use glitter is to use a nail art adhesive and draw designs with the adhesive, sprinkle the glitter over it and you can keep doing this, adding in different colors.
Airbrushing is very popular and the effects can be amazing. Airbrushing does take practice and you will eventually find your own technique as to how to hold the gun and hold the stencils to achieve the best results.
Rhinestones come in many different colors and shapes from Austrian crystals to acrylic rhinestones. Teardrop rhinestones can be used to create flowers, round stones can be used to create patterns or lines. Apply them to tacky nail polish and then finish with two good coats of a top quality top coat. Also available are rhinestuds, these also come in different shapes and colors and they are made from metal, these also look great and give a totally different effect to rhinestones. An easy way to pick up small rhinestones is to moisten the end of a toothpick and use this to pick the stone up.
Foils come in a rainbow of colors and are easy to apply. You need to use a nail art adhesive then place the foil face up onto the adhesive and press gently. You can place foil over foil too. Foil can also be used under gel and then the gel cured for a permanent foil design.
Foil nuggets create unique nail art, they can be applied to tacky nail polish, shred the foil into tiny shreds and then using a moistened toothpick place them on the nail to create your designs.
Paints are best applied with a special thin nail art brush or striping brush, you can let imagination run riot with the abundance of colors available. Again to help your design last use a top coat to seal it.
Marbling can be messy but the end results are amazing. Get a glass dappen and fill it with water to about two thirds, using good quality nail polish and working quickly, drop about 3 drops of one color in, then 3 drops of another color on top of the first color. Using a marbling tool, starting in the middle of the polish, drag it out to the outer edge, do this at about 5 different points, always starting from the centre, then turn the nail upside down and place it onto the polish, using a cotton bud, run around the outside of the nail, this will pick up the excess nail polish and help pull the design on the nail. Remove the nail, let it dry thoroughly and then using a cotton bud and nail polish remover remove the excess on the cuticles.
Other nail art items are 3D ceramic flowers, use glue to apply these, then finish with top coat. Colored acrylic powder is great for creating different colored french nails or designs. Glitter acrylic is also available.
Decals are quick and easy and there are 1000's of designs available.
What about laser strands, very fine metal which can be used like striping tape.
Dangle charms and nail polish charms can also add another dimension to your nail art. Dangles look fantastic and can be easily removed and changed. Nail polish charms are applied to tacky nail polish and sealed in with top coat.
