Gel Nails Fimo Nail Art - A Popular Choice for Nail Decoration by Gel Nails
A polymer clay brand, Fimo has emerged as one of the most popular nail decoration ideas among nail technicians and their clients. Millefiore clay canes made of Fimo and used on nails are known as fimo nail art. Fimo is known for its properties of firmness, strength and ability to retain shapes without distortion which is one of the reasons for its popularity among nail technicians. Clients love this nail art because it looks great on their nails, there are so many options to select from and it lasts really long on their nails.
Using Fimo nail art is a great way for nail techs to take their business forward. It saves them a lot of time in terms of crafting, designing and painting nails manually. The nail expert is therefore not required to have the skills to paint and sculpt acrylic as Fimo comes in canes of hundreds of designs as well as pre sliced if the tech demands. The client just has to select the design or pattern they would like and paste them on the nails.
If you are a professional, Fimo canes are the best option for you, as they can easily be embedded on gel nails, nail polish and even acrylic nails. For application on nail polish you have to make sure that the cane is sliced paper thin, about 0.1mm to 0.2mm and applied carefully with a pinpoint tweezer. First apply the base coat and then place the Fimo slice with a drop of glue on the nails. You can then complete the nails with the application of the top coat.
For embedding Fimo slices on gel nails, first sculpt the nail with the gel and then apply the slice pressing down with a plastic wrap. Cure the gel nail under the UV lamp and complete the rest of the gel nail procedures. For acrylic nails, apply the colored acrylic on the nails, then the clear acrylic. Place the Fimo slices on the uncured surface and cap it with the last coat. Shape nails to the desired level to get the best results. If you think the Fimo slice is too thick, you can let it dry and file away the excess and then top it up with the last coat.
It is best to invest in whole Fimo canes as you can always slice it to the desired thinness yourself without any wastage and also use them on natural nails. However, it is important that you slice the canes with a very sharp blade to avoid smearing the pattern and distorting its shape. Canes should be ideally warmed before use so that you can cut them with ease. Warming can be done either by rubbing the cane between your palms or by holding it under light for a while. Some Fimo sticks today do not even have to be warmed before slicing.
Fimo canes and slices are available in a wide range. The patterns vary from fruits, flowers, smileys, insects, birds, figures, candy canes, stars to name a few. You can either select a single pattern or can even opt to create a colorful collage for your clients’ nails using varied Fimo slices. The possibilities with Fimo are endless. You can create a new look each time and have a wow from your clients.

Nail Art Is Fun by BMNE Direct
Glitter needs to be micro find and color fast. It can be added into acrylic powder and gel easily. With gel, sprinkle the glitter between coats, cure and brush off the excess before applying the next gel coat. Glitter can also be applied to the top of the nail on to tacky nail polish and then finished with a good quality top coat. The trick to a top finish is once the nail polish has dried is to brush off the excess glitter before applying the top coat, if you don't do this you will get glitter in your top coat. Another way to use glitter is to use a nail art adhesive and draw designs with the adhesive, sprinkle the glitter over it and you can keep doing this, adding in different colors.
Airbrushing is very popular and the effects can be amazing. Airbrushing does take practice and you will eventually find your own technique as to how to hold the gun and hold the stencils to achieve the best results.
Rhinestones come in many different colors and shapes from Austrian crystals to acrylic rhinestones. Teardrop rhinestones can be used to create flowers, round stones can be used to create patterns or lines. Apply them to tacky nail polish and then finish with two good coats of a top quality top coat. Also available are rhinestuds, these also come in different shapes and colors and they are made from metal, these also look great and give a totally different effect to rhinestones. An easy way to pick up small rhinestones is to moisten the end of a toothpick and use this to pick the stone up.
Foils come in a rainbow of colors and are easy to apply. You need to use a nail art adhesive then place the foil face up onto the adhesive and press gently. You can place foil over foil too. Foil can also be used under gel and then the gel cured for a permanent foil design.
Foil nuggets create unique nail art, they can be applied to tacky nail polish, shred the foil into tiny shreds and then using a moistened toothpick place them on the nail to create your designs.
Paints are best applied with a special thin nail art brush or striping brush, you can let imagination run riot with the abundance of colors available. Again to help your design last use a top coat to seal it.
Marbling can be messy but the end results are amazing. Get a glass dappen and fill it with water to about two thirds, using good quality nail polish and working quickly, drop about 3 drops of one color in, then 3 drops of another color on top of the first color. Using a marbling tool, starting in the middle of the polish, drag it out to the outer edge, do this at about 5 different points, always starting from the centre, then turn the nail upside down and place it onto the polish, using a cotton bud, run around the outside of the nail, this will pick up the excess nail polish and help pull the design on the nail. Remove the nail, let it dry thoroughly and then using a cotton bud and nail polish remover remove the excess on the cuticles.
Other nail art items are 3D ceramic flowers, use glue to apply these, then finish with top coat. Colored acrylic powder is great for creating different colored french nails or designs. Glitter acrylic is also available.
Decals are quick and easy and there are 1000's of designs available.
What about laser strands, very fine metal which can be used like striping tape.
Dangle charms and nail polish charms can also add another dimension to your nail art. Dangles look fantastic and can be easily removed and changed. Nail polish charms are applied to tacky nail polish and sealed in with top coat.
If you are stuck for design ideas, grab a nail art book and you are sure to find a design you like or it may give you inspiration.

Pink & White Airbrush Design
Here is the video tutorial of my Pink & White Lace Nail Design. Please click on the follow button to keep up to date with all my post.
Hi, this is the nail art design I have on my own nails at the moment. It looks stunning in the daylight. First use your favourite base coat. The I used OPI polish Italian Love Affair, 2 coats. Let it completely dry and then cover your nail with some lace and airbrush white paint over it. Next apply some airbrush varnish and then your favourite top coat.
I will post the youtube video tutorial I did for this design next.
French Manicures
French manicures are very clean, elegant style to have on your nails. French manicures go with any outfit you wear as you do not have to think about clashing colours. They are easier to maintain as you can touch up the white if it chips without it being too noticeable. The French manicure usually lasts longer than the coloured polish manicure.
Some may ask why bother if you are just going to put clear nail polish on your nails, what is the point? Why bother to spend that time and effort, to look natural? Well, us women do lots of crazy things, and spend countless hours in the salon to appear naturally beautiful. So why should manicures be any different? The polish used in the French manicure is two different colours not just clear. White polish is applied to the tips of your nails and allowed to dry. Then the entire nail is painted with a soft beige or a translucent pink colour, making the nails very clean and polished looking. This is not as dramatic as red or pink polish.
Most salons charge more money for a French manicure than a normal one colour manicure. They are more difficult to apply than one solid colour but do look almost natural. There is three ways of applying the French manicure. 1. is to carefully apply the white polish keeping the smile line tidy. This is the hardest way. 2. apply the white polish to the tips not worrying about keeping a tidy smile line. Then afterwards with a brush dipped in polish remover clean up the smile line. 3. the easiest way is to apply guide stickers, then paint on the white polish. Remove the stickers and you have your perfect smile line.
French manicures became popular in the seventies, and is just as popular today. Everywhere you look you can see French manicures, in magazines, to mums shopping. The French manicure doesn't have a target age range. Anyone from teenagers, to grandmothers can be seen wearing a French manicure, you can't say that about other fashion trends.
Now there is the French pedicure as a new addition to the French manicure family. It has the same flexibility and versatility of the French manicure. Its great that you can change your shoes and outfits to different colours and not have to rethink your toenail or fingernail polish.
